Mayaka began with curiosity.
What started as creative exploration slowly became a world of handcrafted statement pieces built bead by bead.
Founded in Durban, South Africa, Mayaka was born from a fascination with shape, texture, traditional bag silhouettes, and the idea that accessories could feel deeply personal. Some designs are inspired by everyday objects, architecture, movement, or shapes we encounter naturally. Others simply begin with creative curiosity and the desire to create something beautiful from beads.

The Beginning
Mayaka began as a hobby in 2021 before officially launching as a business in January 2022. What started with experimenting and learning slowly evolved into a recognizable handcrafted accessories brand.

The Process
Every bag goes through sourcing, design experimentation, trial and error, hand beading, structure refinement, finishing touches, and careful packaging. Some designs take multiple attempts before the final version feels complete.

In a world of mass production and disposable fashion, Mayaka chooses a slower and more intentional approach that values detail, craftsmanship, and connection. Designed to feel memorable and worthy of being kept.
Built by hand, not rushed.
At Mayaka, the process matters just as much as the final piece. Materials are sourced carefully. Designs are tested repeatedly. Beads are threaded one by one by hand. Hardware, magnetic clasps, lining, and finishing details are selected intentionally to complete the design.
Every order is then packaged beautifully and finished with Mayaka’s signature scent before being sent to its new home.
